‘Performances by the Vienna Piano Trio are, quite simply, stunning. I have never heard care for detail balanced with expressive purpose work so successfully …’ BBC Music Magazine
For more than 20 years the distinguished Vienna Piano Trio has been delighting audiences and critics alike with its superb musicianship. ‘The ensemble overall was amazing,’ wrote The Washington Post recently, ‘its members phrased with the greatest freedom, made hair-trigger tempo transitions and produced musical paragraphs of inexorable logic and beauty.’
This concert presents a selection of the classical and romantic repertoire in which the ensemble so excels. Haydn’s Piano Trio in E flat, written in England, reveals the composer as a master of musical refinement and humour. Schumann’s youthful F major Trio, inspired by his pianist-wife’s own trio, brims with gusto and passion. Last comes Mendelssohn’s C minor Trio, a work of boundless energy and lyricism.
