Introduction from Kathryn Stott

Dear Music Lover,

Welcome to this very exciting season of wonderful chamber music!

We begin with one of the most outstanding young violinists currently performing on the international circuit, Janine Jansen.  As part of an established string trio with colleagues Maxim Rysanov and Torleif Thedéen, they will perform Bach’s Goldberg Variations.   I’m particularly thrilled to welcome Christian Tetzlaff with his quartet for a fascinating programme which will include Schoenberg’s Quartet No.1 – a first for MCCS.  The Auryn Quartet have been performing together for 30 years but have made only rare appearances in the UK.  It is therefore a special pleasure to welcome one of the world’s leading ensembles to Manchester.

Isabelle Faust recently made her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and has had an exciting duo partnership with the fabulous Russian pianist, Alexander Melnikov, for many years. Their appearance for MCCS is already greatly anticipated!  Peter Cropper needs no introduction as the former first violin of The Lindsays.  However, what a joy his new formation promises to be. Martin Roscoe and Moray Welsh are hugely committed chamber musicians and their piano trio is proving a great hit throughout the country.

I first heard Katherine Broderick two years ago and was totally stunned by her beautiful voice.  Since then, she has appeared in Manchester as part of the outstanding Götterdämmerung production given by the Hallé in 2009. James Baillieu is currently one of the most sought-after young pianists and works frequently in recitals with Katherine.

To end our season, we turn to the period-instrument London Haydn Quartet and Dutch clarinettist, Eric Hoeprich. Their stylish interpretations are increasingly in demand at major concert halls worldwide.

It’s with enormous pleasure that I introduce all of these outstanding artists and look forward to enjoying great chamber music with you next season.
